HAMROTO-35 Hambuilder Antenna Rotator Retrofit

Upgrade Your Legacy Rotator into a Modern, Precise, and Maintenance-Free System

Stop Fighting Your Rotator

Most classic antenna rotators still rely on mechanical potentiometers for position feedback. Over time, they introduce:

  • Drift and inaccurate readings

  • Noisy or unstable indication

  • Mechanical wear and failure

  • Difficult maintenance and replacement

Yet mechanically, many of these rotators are still perfectly usable. HAMROTO-35 is designed to solve exactly this problem.

A Modern Approach to Position Sensing

HAMROTO-35 replaces the traditional potentiometer with a digital magneto compass sensor. What does that mean for you?

  • No physical contact: No wear and tear.

  • Stable heading: Readings remain consistent over time.

  • Consistent accuracy: Retains precision after calibration.

  • Reliable operation: Built to withstand real outdoor environments.

This is not just a replacement—it’s a fundamental upgrade in how position is measured.

Designed for Real-World Rotators

HAMROTO-35 is built to retrofit a wide range of antenna rotators, especially legacy units.

  • Compatibility requirement: Rotator uses a motor that supports direction switching (CW / CCW).

  • No dependency on original analog feedback circuits.

  • No need to maintain aging potentiometers.

Bring your legacy rotator back to life—without repairing the old controller.

When the Controller Fails, the Rotator Doesn’t Have To

Many classic antenna rotators still have strong, reliable mechanics, but their original controllers are:

  • Damaged or unstable.

  • Difficult to repair due to obsolete parts.

  • Inaccurate due to aging components.

In most cases, the rotator itself is still perfectly usable. HAMROTO-35 is designed to replace the entire control system—without touching the core mechanics.

A Complete Retrofit Solution

Instead of repairing outdated electronics, HAMROTO-35 provides:

  • A modern digital control system.

  • A contactless position sensing method.

  • A reliable interface to your existing motor.

Smart Control Architecture

HAMROTO-35 transforms your rotator into a closed-loop digital control system:

Rotary Input -> Target Direction -> Sensor Feedback -> Intelligent Control -> Relay Output

Key Control Features:

  • Shortest-path rotation logic (CW / CCW).

  • Deadband & hysteresis to prevent relay chatter.

  • Safe relay interlock.

  • Smooth approach to target (anti-overshoot ready).

Result: Accurate positioning without oscillation or instability.

Built on Proven Hardware

HAMROTO-35 is engineered using reliable and widely supported components:

  • Microcontroller: STM32F103C8T6

  • Display Options: 2.2″ TFT (HAMROTO-22), 2.8″ TFT (HAMROTO-28), or 3.5″ TFT (HAMROTO-35)

  • Sensor: Digital magneto compass + STM32F030K6T6 as sensor reader

  • Communication: RS485 (robust, long-distance, noise-resistant)

Note: Connectors included are subject to stock availability.

Why RS485 Matters

Unlike typical short-range signaling, RS485 provides:

  • Strong noise immunity (important near motors and RF).

  • Long cable support.

  • Reliable data transmission between sensor and controller.

Engineered for Harsh Environments

HAMROTO-35 is designed with real installations in mind:

  • Filtering for smooth and consistent readings.

  • Handles electromagnetic interference from motors.

  • Stable operation near metal structures.

  • Supports sensor calibration (offset & scaling).

Installation & Magneto Sensor Position Notes

Important: To ensure high accuracy and avoid magnetic interference, please take note of the following installation instructions for the magneto sensor:

  • Alignment: Mount the magneto sensor perfectly level along the horizontal axis of the rotator’s turning shaft. Any tilt will introduce scaling errors.

  • Distance from Motor: Ensure the sensor is placed at a sufficient distance (minimum 5–10 cm) from the motor’s high-current wiring and steel chassis to avoid magnetic distortion.

  • Cable Shielding: Use a twisted-pair shielded cable for the RS485 connection to the sensor reader to eliminate electromagnetic interference.

  • Calibration: Always perform a soft-iron and hard-iron calibration in your final setup to account for the metal mast.

What You Get

  • Revive old rotators without repairing legacy electronics.

  • Replace unreliable controllers with modern digital systems.

  • Eliminate mechanical sensor failures.

  • Achieve stable and accurate positioning.

  • Extend equipment lifetime significantly.

HAMROTO-35: Not just a retrofit—a complete modernization of your antenna rotator system.

Reliable. Accurate. Built for real field operation.
